The Importance of Hot & Cold Therapy and Hydration

The Importance of Hot & Cold Therapy and Hydration

If you follow us on social media you’ll know that we recently collabed with Arc Community - a group sauna and ice bath space in Canary Wharf. The collab of dreams 🤝💙

If you thought that was cool, they also host the Arc After Dark Series. They run every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, they open up their space with a DJ, providing the perfect nighttime venue for wellness, as a nice alternative to pubs or bars. As soon as we heard, we knew it was right up our street & we just had to be involved!!

On the 13th & 14th Nov, we rocked up with our Hydration Station, ready to replenish everyone with our Daily Immune+ mocktails.

Sweat, Hydrate. Recover. 🔁

This drink was made up with water, grapefruit juice, agave, and fresh grapefruit and it’s fair to say they went down a treat - we had people begging for the recipe! If you want the recipe - keep reading to the bottom 👇

But first, what are the benefits of hot & cold therapy?

Hot Therapy:

Relaxation and Stress Reduction

Exposure to heat triggers physiological responses that help regulate hormones associated with the body’s stress response and you may see a difference in your sleep too! (Forbes)*. It also causes vasodilation which relaxes muscles and boosts blood and lymphatic flow (Arc)*.

Pain Relief

Heat reduces muscle tension and joint stiffness, relieving pain in conditions such as arthritis. (Forbes)*.

Heart Health and Longevity

Regular sauna use is associated in studies with lower risks of cardiovascular disease. Studies also suggest that it may reduce the risk of age-related conditions like heart and neurodegenerative diseases (Forbes)*.

 Improves Respiratory Tract Function

Heat therapy can humidify the airways, helping bronchodilation and reducing airway inflammation. This can then also reduce the risk of respiratory conditions (Forbes)*.

Cold Therapy:

Inflammation and Pain Relief

Cold immersion causes vasoconstriction which reduces swelling and inflammation whilst numbing pain, all aiding recovery (Arc)*.

Boosted alertness

Cold shock increases norepinephrine, improving alertness.

Mental resilience

Cold exposure can activate stress-adaptation pathways, improving mood and stress tolerance.

Improved circulation

Exposure to cold temperatures can stimulate blood flow, boosting circulation and promoting faster recovery (betterhelp)*.

When used together, the shift of hot to cold helps your body rest and recover which realigns the central and peripheral nervous system (Arc)*.

Where does hydration come into hot & cold therapy?

Saunas are a HOT place to be. When you sweat, not only are you becoming dehydrated, your body is losing essential salts and minerals.

This is where Phizz comes in. Phizz hydrates you 3X faster than water alone, whilst replenishing your body of all its essential salts and minerals.
The perfect recovery pairing if you ask us!!

But wait. It gets better.

Phizz is delicious don’t get it wrong, but we all like a change sometimes right?

Introducing our specially crafted Daily Immune+ mocktail. Made with grapefruit juice, this mocktail is going to leave your taste buds wanting more. Sweet agave cuts through the sharpness of grapefruit, which balances perfectly with our orange Immune+.

Here’s how to do it 👇

  1. Make up a standard Immune+ tablet with water
  2. Mix in a squeeze (or two) of agave
  3. Add a few glugs of grapefruit juice
  4. Slice up some fresh grapefruit and put in a couple of slices in the cup
  5. Add a sprig of rosemary to garnish and voila

We can guarantee this will go down a treat with you AND your friends. Take it from us - you’ll have people begging you for the recipe and the best bit? It’s so simple!

So next time you don’t feel like going out, consider an evening of wellness, filled with hot & cold therapy (with appropriate hydration of course).
